How does n8n authenticate with Redbark?

n8n authenticates with a Redbark API key used as a bearer token, created at Settings → API Keys.

What can the AI actually see?

Read-only access to your connected accounts, balances and transactions (and, on the Professional plan, brokerage holdings and trades). It can never move money or change your accounts.

Does Redbark store the data n8n reads?

No. Each request is proxied live from your bank through the Redbark MCP server. Redbark stores consent records, encrypted tokens and minimal account metadata — never transaction amounts, descriptions or balances.

Which Redbark plan do I need for MCP access?

MCP access requires a Developer or Professional plan. Brokerage tools (holdings and trades) additionally require the Professional plan.

Why does n8n use an API key instead of OAuth?

n8n workflows run headless, with no browser for an interactive consent screen. Use a Redbark API key (rbk_live_…) as an Authorization: Bearer token in the MCP Client Tool node.

Can n8n write to my bank?

No. Redbark’s MCP tools are read-only. n8n can read accounts, balances and transactions, but cannot move money or modify your accounts.

Connect your bank to Redbark

Sign up for Redbark and link your Australian bank accounts through CDR Open Banking. You consent at your bank — Redbark never sees your login.

Create a Redbark API key

In Redbark, go to Settings → API Keys and create a key. n8n runs unattended, so it uses a bearer token rather than interactive OAuth.

Add the MCP Client Tool node

In your workflow, add the MCP Client Tool node, set the endpoint to the MCP URL with HTTP Streamable transport, and add Bearer auth with your Redbark key.
