What is document extraction?

It turns PDF statements and receipts into transactions. You add a document, Redbark reads it and pulls out the transactions, and they sync to your destinations like any other transaction.

When would I use it instead of a bank connection?

When we cannot connect your account live. Open Banking covers Australian banks, but cards like American Express, overseas accounts, and some lenders are not available yet. Document extraction lets you bring those in from statements.

What files can I upload?

PDF, PNG, and JPEG, up to 4 MB and 30 pages each. Most bank and card statements and photographed receipts work out of the box.

Can I email documents in?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Each bucket has a private forwarding address. Forward the statement emails you already receive and we extract the attachment. The document has to be an attachment though: text in the body of the email is not read.

Does it sync automatically?

Yes. Extracted rows sync to your destinations automatically, the same as a live bank connection, with no manual approval step. Rows we are less sure about are flagged as low-confidence so you can spot-check them, and if an extraction is wrong you can delete the file.

Do you store my documents?

Yes, and we are upfront about it. Live bank connections are pass-through and store nothing, but to extract transactions we have to read the file, so we store the document and the rows we pull from it. Deleting a file removes both.

Is there a limit?

Each plan includes a monthly extraction allowance (Saver 30, Developer 150, Professional 500), and you are only charged for successful extractions. Failed reads and emails with no readable attachment never use a slot.

Can I query extracted transactions through the API?

Accepted Answer

Yes. A bucket appears as a connection and account in the REST API and MCP server, and its transactions come back in the same shape as bank transactions. No special handling needed.
