MoneyBrilliant vs Redbark

MoneyBrilliant was a popular Australian money-management app until Westpac retired it in December 2022. Redbark picks up where it left off: Open Banking connections to your AU banks, syncing into YNAB, Google Sheets, and your own tools.

MoneyBrilliant was one of Australia's better money-management apps. It pulled your accounts together, tracked spending, and gave you a single view of your finances. AMP backed it, Westpac acquired it in late 2021, and Westpac then retired the standalone app on 16 December 2022, folding some of its features into the Westpac banking app instead.1 If you used MoneyBrilliant and do not bank with Westpac, you have been left without a like-for-like replacement.

Redbark is that replacement, with a different idea about where your data should live.

A pipe, not another app

MoneyBrilliant kept your accounts and transactions inside its dashboard. Redbark does not try to be the app you log into every day. It connects your Australian banks and syncs your transactions into the tools you already use: YNAB, Google Sheets, Actual Budget, or your own systems via webhooks and an API. Nothing is stored on our side. Every sync fetches your data live and writes it to your destination.

Connected over Open Banking

Redbark connects through Open Banking (the Consumer Data Right) via Fiskil, an accredited data recipient.2 You authenticate directly with your bank, approve a specific time-limited consent, and your banking password never leaves your bank. It is the regulated, consent-based way to share bank data in Australia.

Real-time, and yours to build on

Where MoneyBrilliant refreshed your accounts periodically, Redbark pushes each transaction to your destinations within seconds. If you want to go further than a dashboard, you get a REST API, signed webhooks, and an MCP server so AI assistants like Claude can query your accounts with scoped, revocable access.
